For clinicians
How to order custom orthotics from ORTX: scan, script, 72-hour delivery
ORTX is a Brisbane orthotic lab that manufactures fully custom devices for clinicians. Ordering runs through the ORTX Pro practitioner portal. This is the whole process, start to finish.
1. Open a clinic account
Apply at ortx.com.au/pro. Accounts are for AHPRA-registered podiatrists and physiotherapists, and each one is approved by the lab. Approved clinics pay per order by card, or can apply for trade-account terms.
2. Scan the feet
Capture both feet in-clinic with the scanner you already use. The portal accepts STL, OBJ and PLY meshes, iQube/TechMed .iMed files and zipped multi-file scans, each attached to the left or right foot. You can attach the scan when you create the order or add it afterwards, up to the point the device goes into design.
3. Write the script
The script covers what the lab needs to design the device:
- Patient, presenting complaint and footwear (brand, style and size)
- Shell type, length and stiffness
- Rearfoot and forefoot posting, medial or lateral skives with side and depth in millimetres
- Heel cup, apertures and cut-outs
- Top cover: none, EVA or Poron, sulcus or full length
- Any notes or a problem area marked on the foot
If you are unsure about a detail, choose "leave to ORTX" and the lab designs it from the scan and the complaint, then checks with you if anything is unclear.
4. Review and manufacture
Every order is reviewed by the lab before it prints. The shell is laser-sintered in PA11 nylon, finished and covered in-house in Brisbane. Order status shows in the portal at each stage: submitted, in review, manufacturing, shipped.
5. Delivery
Express delivery is included in every order. Orders in by 3pm AEST are delivered to the clinic within 72 hours, Australia-wide. Tracking is added to the order when it ships.
